London calls Makkum

We have developed a set of glazed ceramic façade elements for a prestigious project in the City of London together with Eric Parry Architects. These handmade ‘building blocks’ are for the façade of 5-7 St Helen’s Place, owned by the Leathersellers’ Company. Production is on schedule and we are currently in the midst of it. We are making a total of at least 10,000 elements comprising 60 different models, for a three-dimensional façade that harmonises with the historical setting of this prominent location.

Ceramics and glaze

The production of the new façade elements was preceded by a period of intensive sampling and tests. Ultimately the choice was for the traditional slip-casting method, which we have refined here in Makkum. This makes it possible to carry out relatively large-scale production efficiently. The glazed elements make up a three-dimensional façade of refined tactility.

Eric Parry Architects (EPA) is a leading and influential London practice with an impressive list of achievements. In 2006, the founder, Eric Parry, was nominated by the members of The Royal Academy of Arts and elected as a Royal Academician (RA), joining a most prestigious list of eminent architect members in the UK. The firm is active worldwide.
